The One Percent Tithe

We have all heard of the wealthy one percent of Americans. This group is accountable for thirty percent of the wealth in our country. What if this segment took ten percent of their cash assets and did what God asks them to do?

What if they joined a church then gave a ten percent tithe that could be spread out amongst churches? Then the churches did what God intended with that tithe?

For those who do not know what a tithe is it is simply a ten percent amount of one’s earnings that we are to give to God and his kingdom. This money when used honestly helps the church to function and allows it to help our communities. When used correctly it is tax-exempt. If it is not tax-exempt it should be. When one thinks about it, if you are to give ten percent and keep the other ninety that is not a bad deal.

We know poor and middle-class people who give tithes. Even if they cannot do ten percent, they give what they can. What if the one percent did the same thing?

Now, whether one agrees or disagrees with tithes, here are numbers that do not lie. If we look at the money the one percent could give to the church and see how it can be used, we will see the difference it can make in so many communities around the country.

It is reported that one percent of the people in this country have $49.2 trillion dollars in assets. The belief is that they keep two to ten percent of that in cash. For the simplicity of math let us go with the high number. That would make ten percent of their assets to be $4.92 trillion in cash.

Now let us take that ten percent and divide it by another ten percent. This would leave us with $492 billion. Imagine how much could be done with $492 billion. Divide this into 50 ways, you have $9.84 billion for each state in America.

If my math is off forgive me but you get the picture.

If the churches keep their building, infrastructure and costs to a minimum that $9.84 billion could go a long way towards feeding, clothing and housing people. It could go a long way towards helping people with their education costs. It could create programs to help children and the elderly.

These tithes would help those who need help receive it. They would give a boost to those who need it. And when these people are taken care of then another group can be. Because unfortunately, there will always be poor and needy in America.

If the one percent were willing to give their ten percent, the 99 would not have to carry the burden for our communities. When you take $4.92 trillion from 49.2 trillion that leaves $44.28 trillion. No one is going to the poor house with that much. So, there is no argument for not giving the 10 percent.

The ten percent tithe would not hurt the one percent. It would certainly help the ninety-nine.
