A Prayer For Our Elected Officials

Whether we voted for them. Whether we like them. Whether we agree with their decisions we can all pray for our elected officials. If we do not believe in prayer, we can wish them well. If we do it consistently there is a chance we will see them more as human beings.

It only takes a minute. We can do it before turning on the TV or reading the news.

A guideline could be to pray for our elected officials to become humble servants of God. In this way they will become humble servants of the people. And as humble servants of God hopefully they will look for biblical solutions to the problems created by man.

We can pray that they never make any decision without first going to God in prayer and meditation.

God always has an open ear for all of us. We can go to Him in prayer about anything. Elected officials have a tough job. There is no way that they can perform their tasks without the help of God. By taking their burdens to Him, they are admitting that they need help.

After asking for help and guidance our elected officials can meditate and wait for the word of God to come to them. It may happen right away. It may happen later, but it will come. Once they receive the word then our elected officials can put it into action.

We can pray that our elected officials always put political gain and profit aside and put honoring God in their work. The role of an elected official is not to advance themselves or their political party. It is to do God’s work and advance his kingdom. They do this by advancing the well-being of the citizens whom they serve whether those people voted for them or not.

Elected officials are not to seek monetary profit from their position. It is to give gifts of talent and resources to the citizens they serve. It is also to help those who do not have to have. Their reward for their soul will be much greater than any material gains could ever bring.

Then we should pray that all of us put away the labels of Democrat, Republican, Left, Right, Blue, Red, Liberal, and Conservative aside. None of us were born with these labels and they are only divisive.

Finally, we should pray that all our elected officials work to truly make our country “one nation, under God, indivisble, with liberty and justice for all.”

This is not much to pray for. In time, it would make us look at our elected officials differently.

We would look at them more humanly.
