Being Humble

We like to be recognized for the things we do. In today's world it almost seems as though likes and shares are the most important thing to us. All of this is fine if we humble ourselves before God. For without Him we are nothing.

Being humble is hard when we live in a world where so many are valued by how well known they are. But as Horace Greeley once wrote:

“Fame is a Vapor

Popularity an accident

Riches take wings

Only one thing endures and that is character”

All of this is true. Every famous person in the world has seen it disappear. No one has become popular on their name alone. No matter how much money you have it will depart from you, or you will depart from it. But the one thing that will always stand is our mental and moral work.

Many of us want our legacy to be one that others will see and remember. And sometimes we brag and boast about ourselves to accomplish it. Often, we take credit without acknowledging the people who helped us. Our pride clouds our outlook.

However, when we perform for God and no one else we become humble to Him. And our outlook on people and the world changes.

Humble people do not seek fame. Those that are humble simply do what is right. Or what duty is asked of them. The humble do not tell people of their accomplishments. The humble let their work speak for them.

There is quiet confidence in those that are humble. It shows in their walk. One can hear it in their voice. The spotlight is not as important as using the platform given to them to help others. What others think is not as important as fulfilling the God given tasks assigned.

And when we are humble, we are less inclined to get upset over criticisms and critiques. In fact, we are more likely to accept and use them to better ourselves. We are also less likely to get pulled into arguments that may lead to fractured relationships. Instead, we will listen to others and try to find common ground.

Fortunately for us there have been many humble people who have helped this country try to succeed. Some we have heard about. Many whom we have not. They have come from all walks of life. They will continue to.

For all the credit and fame that we give to those who seek it let us not forget those who do not.

Those who stay humble do God’s work to glorify Him.

If we as Americans are willing to do this then we will truly become God’s Country.
