Coming Together
We are the United States of America. And we are when we come together. History has proven this.
In our lives we have all been put in situations when we have had to work with others. It may be in a classroom. It may be on a job. It may be on the athletic field. It may be in our families. It may be in church.
The first thing that we must do in these settings is agree on the goal to be accomplished and how to do it. Then we must get every person involved to pull together for no one can do it alone.
The beauty of team sports is not winning or losing. It is a group of people who come together and help one another. Some team members have large egos. Some have small ones. Some have many gifts. Others only have a few. But all find a way to maximize the team effort.
Coming together does not mean that everyone will like one another. It does not mean that everyone will agree on how things should be done. It does not mean that there will not be any friction from time to time. Every human brain is wired in its own way.
But when ideas are shared, common ground is found. When we get to know each other and what can be done bridges of trust are formed. These bridges of trust supersede everything. When we know that we can rely on the people next to us we are more likely to go that extra mile for them.
And walls that may have existed before we came together suddenly begin to fall. People who are sworn enemies become friends. Beliefs that we may have about others are suddenly debunked. Personalities that may have been hidden can suddenly come out. Bonds start to form.
It is a beautiful sight to see when this happens. The joy on the faces involved is priceless. Often it is because all have contributed to meeting the goal set. When the accomplishments exceed the goal even better.
If small groups can bring so much joy by coming together how much more can we do if we truly unite as a country? By putting aside our differences and coming together to become the United States of America?
The basic steps are there. Agree on the goal. Become united. Pulling together to do it. Then building bridges of trust that will help us to conduct this endeavor. It is the only way that we will reach our full potential.
God is waiting for us to come together.
And when we do, He will bless us with more than we could ever imagine.
